CORYNOCARPUS LAEVIGATUS (Karaka)
7cm $2.45
Karaka is a medium-sized leafy canopy tree with erect or spreading branches. It grows to heights up to 9-15 m and has a stout trunk up to 1 m in diameter. In winter and spring, large clusters of karaka produces stout, erect panicles of tiny flowers, greenish-cream to off-white or pale yellow. The fruit is about 3 mm long, with pale yellow–orange flesh, containing a single seed. Glossy dark green leaves offset the oval orange fruit which ripen in autumn. It is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, making it ideal for coastal plantings. It prefers a moist, average to rich soil that drains freely. Though hardy, protect young trees from heavy frosts.
