The fruit of Olea europaea ‘Ascolano’ is large and has small pits, making it excellent  as table fruit since the olives are quite sizable. It is suited for use in hedges, screens, or lining avenues and driveways.It is frost tolerant and partially self-fertile. It produces the best crops when it is planted alongside Olea europaea ‘Frantoio’ or Olea europaea’Leccino’. The fruit ripens in autumn and changes color from green to red before becoming a purple-black hue. It features white flowers during the summer and has grey-green leaves . It is evergreen and a native from the Mediterranean through Africa to China.
