Olea europaea ‘Verdale’ is well-suited for pickling when the fruit is still in its green stage. It is a compact grower and is suitable for use in hedging and screens. It is self-fertile .The fruit ripens in autumn, transitioning from green to red before  becoming a purple-black color. It features white flowers during the summer and has grey-green leaves. It is evergreen and native from the Mediterranean through Africa to China. Olea europaea ‘Verdale’ originated in France.
